There is a typed inscription on an old label on the back which reads 'Acquired by Geoffrey Harmsworth, November 24, 1950, from G.H. Porter, a grandson of J.H. Vokins, the art dealer and friend of de Wint. This oil sketch, with a number of others, was given to Vokins by Mrs de Wint, after her husband's death. They were stored in an attic at 40, Upper Gower Street (see Sir Walter Armstrong's "Memoir of Peter de Wint", 1888).'
