A watercolour version of this oil in the Tate Gallery is dated circa 1811 by Hammond Smith (Peter de Wint, 1982, p.8, pl.8).
Lincoln Minster was consecrated in 1092. The bases of the towers were completed circa 1148 and the upper parts in 1365.
