Both the bosses on these two tiles have the ground almost pierced through from the reverse, leaving a relatively thin skin. One of the two retains a feature which demonstrates they had a function as well as that of decoration. It contains part of a stucco plug that originally filled the interior of the boss and into which was inserted a fixing pin, presumably of metal, the other end of which was then used to attach the tiles to the backing material.

A large panel of moulded tiles of the same period, some of which are unglazed and which are interspersed with similar bosses, is in a private collection.
