The lateral inscription cartouches state that the book was from the library of the king, 'Abd al-'Aziz Bahadur Khan. The cartouches above and below contain futher couplets from the main text.
Abol-Mansour 'Abd al-'Aziz Bahadur Khan of the Janids in Transoxania (1599-1785), ruled from 1645-91 and was the most prominent ruler of the dynasty, reviving the royal library and atelier in Bokhara.
Another copy of Sadi's Bustan prepared for Bahadur Khan dated AH 1059/1645 AD is in the Chester Beatty Library (The Chester Beatty Library, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts and Miniatures, Dublin 1962, no.274, p.45-6).
