Mughal, late 17th century

gouache heightened with gold on paper, the bearded noble stands in profile, wearing a white embroidered turban tied with a gold band and a white coat tied with a pink and gold embroidered sash over striped trousers with yellow shoes, and holds a long staff, buff ground (negligible spotting), beige and blue borders within yellow margins between black and white rules, verso with a panel of elegant black nasta'liq on buff paper, signed by 'Abd al-Rahim, on silver sprinkled dark buff leaf (some discolouration)
