The initials and coronet are those of Lord Fauconberg and Conyers.
An identical cup and cover by the same, 1774, were sold by Christie's, London, March 7, 1990, lot 159. A similar cup and cover, apparently by James Schruder, was sold at Christie's from the Collection of Sir Lionel Faudel-Phillips, Bt., June 12, 1941, and was also in the Daily Telegraph Exhibition in 1928. John Hugh Le Sage was Subordinate Goldsmith to the King (see Major General H.W.D. Sitwell, "The Jewel House and the Royal Goldsmiths", Archaeological Journal, CXVII, p. 155)
