Based on 18th century originals by Hermann Neupert II in the Royal Collection (see Schadt & Schneider, cat. nos. 57, 58). The monogram on the present examples is that of Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1941).

A PAIR OF GERMAN SILVER SEVEN-LIGHT CANDELABRA
BERLIN, LATE 19TH CENTURY, MAKER'S MARK OF GEBRUDER FRIEDLANDER
In the rococo style, on shaped domed circular bases rising to spiral baluster stems, chased with flowers, foliate scrolls and rocaille enclosing panels of diaperwork and fishscales, supporting six branches and a central spiral branch issuing from a flower bud and applied with acanthus and flowerheads, with baluster leaf-clad sockets and waxpans formed as overlapping acanthus, the bases engraved with the monogram WR under a crown, underneath numbered and with scratch weights, marked on bases-- (2)
