A Mirrored Back Half Model Of The Ship CELICIA of 1898
Anonymous; British, 19th century
A very fine builder's half model mounted on a front silvered mirror. The model is built up from the solid and is painted with black topsides and a pink bottom. The decks of the model are of boxwood veneer with the planking scored and the lines darkened. The model is well detailed with chocks, bollards, deck railings, whaleback, ladders, hatches, bridge wing, ventilators, doors, skylights, cabin structures and numerous other details. The model is also fitted with a carved boxwood figurehead and a carved boxwood stern and quarterboards. The model is displayed in a mahogany and glass case with turned columns at each corner.
