The chair with its caned back, Grecian ribbon-fret decoration and scrolled and reed-ringed 'bamboo-like' legs, relates to one acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1899 (R. Edwards A History of the English Chair, London, 1951, no. 108; inv. no. 332-1899).
