This impression cited and illustrated in Kennedy.

It has been said that Whistler once reflected on his etched oeuvre as having been created in three phases: Thames River subjects created early in his career and with realistic detail as a prime focus, the Venetian views with a more "Impressionistic" approach and a third phase in which he "endeavored to combine...the elaboration of the first stage and quality of the second." Whistler considered his fourteen etchings done in and around Amsterdam during 1889 as part of the third phase. Embroidered Curtain and the other Amsterdam etchings are rare.
