Sergeant Thomas Marshall was born in Halifax, Yorkshire and enlisted into the 51st Foot at Ashford, Kent in May 1805, aged 21 years. He subsequently served in the Corunna operations and was finally discharged at Gosport in July 1826, in consequence of 'Rheumatism and being worn out'.
