Descriptif du lot

The present drawing is close in style to St Albans Cathedral doorway (Yale Center for British Art), which dates from about 1797. The freely applied wash with sparse pencil underdrawing can also be compared to St Cuthberts, Holy Island, circa 1797 (Yale Center for British Art), S. Morris, Thomas Girtin 1775-1802, exhibition catalogue, Yale Center for British Art, 1986, no. 49.

We are grateful to Susan Morris and Greg Smith for their help in preparing this catalogue entry.
