Asian Art Week March 2024

  • Event date 13 - 29 March
  • Event location New York
Asian Art Week in New York totalled US$51,846,914 million across a number of exceptional auctions. Kicking off the series with an auspicious start, Japanese and Korean Art found great success with its monumental sale of the entire set of Hokusai’s Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji, which sold for $3,559,000 and broke an artist record in the process. Another artist record was set by Francis Newton Souza’s The Lovers, achieving $4,890,000 in the South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Including Works from the Collection of Umesh and Sunanda Gaur sale, just in time to celebrate the artist’s centennial. The South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art sale exceeded expectations, making a little over three times its low estimate with a $19,721,120 total. The Chinese Works of Art sales had several highlights, with particular success in single owner sales like the Dorothy Tapper Goldman Collection and the ceramics market. Online sales, like the Prints sale and South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art, indexed both the strength of the prints market and continued to break artist records.
