Engage with groundbreaking American art of the modern age at Christie’s New York on 21 April. The live auctions commence with Modern American Masterworks from the Ted Shen Collection, which brings together 26 distinguished works carefully curated by the esteemed collector, musical composer and philanthropist. Leading with Marsden Hartley’s On the Beach, this important collection includes works by Arthur Dove, Stuart Davis, John Marin and more noteworthy artists. Modern American Art continues the day’s offering of American paintings, works on paper and sculptures from the early twentieth century. This selection presents many prominent artists’ contributions to figuration, abstraction and landscape from the modernist movement. Highlights include significant works by Milton Avery, Edward Hopper, Charles Burchfield, Fairfield Porter, Jacob Lawrence, Jamie Wyeth, Nicolai Fechin, Robert Henri and others.
