The Christie’s Old Masters Part I sale offers paintings on a rich variety of themes and spanning six centuries of art history.
Highlights include new discoveries, such as the portrait by Peter Paul Rubens depicting his mother, a Saint John the Baptist by woman artist, Artemisia Gentileschi, a ricordo by Giorgio Vasari and a portrait of a donor from an altarpiece by Vittore Carpaccio. We have works by David Teniers, Jan van der Cappelle and Pieter Brueghel the Younger and a fabulous floral still life by leading painter of Dutch Golden Age, Ambrosius Bosscchaert the Elder. We are offering an array of Renaissance paintings, from Fra Angelico’s Saint Anthony Abbot, to a set of four rare works on linen by Niccolò di Pietro Gerini and from Lucas Cranach the Elder to Dirck Jacobs. The Italian Baroque is represented by a Caravaggesque Matthias Stom, a Charity and a Perseus by Luca Giordano, a Judith and Holofernes by Procaccini and a fantastic Death comes to the table by Giovanni Martinelli. Additional highlights include an exceptional pair of Venetian views by Michele Marieschi in fantastic state and a Head of a bearded man by Giandomenico Tiepolo and a delightful still life of musical instruments by Anne Vallayer-Coster.
