Please note that Christie’s has applied for an ‘Extract from the Archives’ from Patek Philippe Archives but the Extract has not yet been issued and may not be available by the date of the auction.

The present timepiece represents a compelling opportunity for collectors to acquire a rare example of the celebrated reference 1579 by Patek Philippe. Of the approximately 185 pink gold examples believed to have been produced, only around 72 are currently known to the market, underscoring the model’s considerable rarity.

The present reference 1579 'spider lugs' chronograph belongs to the elusive second series and is preserved in excellent condition, notably retaining a crisp and well-defined hallmark beneath the upper left lug. Its dial is particularly attractive, featuring hard enamel 'chemin de fer' scales, applied gold numerals, and square hour markers, all of which contribute to its distinctive and refined aesthetic.

At its heart beats the renowned calibre 13’’130, a movement celebrated for its reliability and finished to the highest standards of the manufacture, as seen in many of Patek Philippe’s chronographs of the period. The case, produced by Wenger, one of Geneva’s most respected casemakers, further enhances the watch’s significance, firmly situating it within the golden age of mid-20th-century chronograph production.
