The miniature on the lid is inspired by the engraving depicting the festivities in the ball-room of 2 June 1771 constructed by Heussée for the Count of Marmara, Sardinian Ambassador in Paris, on the occasion of the marriage of the Comte de Provence, later King Louis XVIII, with Marie-Thérèse of Savoy, Princess of Sardinia.
The base is inset with a miniature inspired by Cochins's engraving depicting the firework given by the city of Paris in the castle of Meudon on 3 September 1735 celebrating the recovery of the Dauphin.
