The scene depicted on the enamel is the flight of Andromache, the widow of the Trojan hero Hector, trying to protect her ill-fated young son Astyanax from persecution by the Greek Neoptolemus and his troops, near the river Scamander. We are indebted to Philippe Plantade, Paris, for the identification of this scene.
