The scenes on the lid and together with two seated figures on the undersides are all details inspired by "La Caccia di Diana", also called "The Games of Diana and her Nymphs" by Domenico Zampieri, Il Domenichino, in the Borghese Gallery, Rome. The scene on the front panel is after "The Dance of Apollo and the Muses" by Giulio Romano in the Pitti Palace, Florence, with the addition of a seated figure to the left.
For a similar box of the same year 1789 but by J.-E. Blerzy, see Géza von Habsburg-Lothringen, op. cit.., no. 57.
