THE PRESENT WORK WAS EXECTUED A YEAR AFTER THE COMPLETION OF MIRó'S FAMOUS "CONSTELLATION" SERIES AND SHARES WITH THIS A VOCABULARY OF PERSONAL AND ELEMENTARY SYMBOLS SIGNIFYING WOMEN, BIRDS, THE SUN, THE MOON AND STARS. HERE, HOWEVER, THE IMAGES HAVE BEEN EXTRICATED FROM THE COMPLEX WEBBING OF THE "CONSTELLATION" BACKGROUNDS. MEN IN THE FORM OF EXAGGERATED SEXUAL ORGANS, OR WITH TRIANGULAR SHAPED ANATOMIES AND GROTESQUE NOSES, CONSTITUTE A MENAGERIE OF TRAGI-COMIC CHARACTERS THAT CO-EXIST, YET APPEAR IN ISOLATION AGAINST A NEUTRAL GROUND. THEY ARE AT ONCE COMMONPLACE, WHIMSICAL AND FANTASTIC.
