2 volumes, oblong 2° (255 x 353mm). Text in French and English. Engraved dedication to Queen Charlotte, a general map of Italy and 72 plates by J. Emes, W. Byrne and others after drawings by Smith. Contemporary English, possibly London, red straight-grained morocco gilt, the covers panelled with various roll-tools, flat spine gilt in compartments, lettered in one and numbered in a second, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (small neat repairs to spines, bookplates somewhat crudely removed from front pastedowns).

FIRST EDITION, IN A FINE CONTEMPORARY BINDING. John "Warwick" Smith (1749-1831), watercolourist, was sent to Italy in 1776 by the 2nd Earl of Warwick, previously George, Lord Grenville, his stay lasting for 5 years. After his return to England, he continued to work up his Italian material, and his Select Views includes depictions of Bologna, Florence, Perugia, Paestum and Loreto.
