The prototype for this 'Pompeiian' bronze athenienne originally served as an altar-brazier in the house of Julio Felix and is now in the Naples museum. This model was copied in the late 19th century by the J. Chiurazzi & Fils of Naples. It features as No.155 in their undated late 19th century catalogue and was manufactured in various sizes and with various finishes.
An athenienne of related design, without the base, was sold Christie's London, 30 October 1997, lot 293.
