Five sepia photographs of the Yuanmingyuan, the Old Summer Palace near Peking
variously depicting the ruins of the south facade, the east gallery and pavilion of the Xieqiqu and other outlying buildings -- the largest 6¾in. (17cm.) x 9in. (23cm.); and a further photograph depicting a riverscape -- 5¼in. (13.3cm.) x 8in. (20.3cm.), all mounted, (some trimmed, soiled and with some old wear).

The Yuanmingyuan (Garden of Perfect Brightness) was built in the 18th century primarily during the reign of the Emperor Qianlong. It was looted and burnt during the Franco-British China campaign of 1860.
