For an almost identical yellow glass bottle, see Helen White, Snuff Bottles from China, The Victoria & Albert Museum Collection, London, 1992, pp. 138-139, pl. 61, no. 1. The author notes that the monochrome carving and formal decoration on their example suggest a relatively early date, and that it might relate to a Qianlong-carved yellow monochrome bowl, (C. 677-1936) which was acquired by the Museum as part of the same gift (Buckley Gift)
For another red glass example of flattened oviform shape carved with taotie on the central section in place of the phoenix and dragon of the present example, see Sotheby's, New York, September 17, 1996, lot 18. Another in yellow glass, also with taotie on the central section and attributed to the Beijing Palace workshops, was sold Sotheby's, London, Fine Chinese Snuff Bottles from an Anonymous Private Collection, April 24, 1989, lot 181
