The Maharajah of Alwar, Jai Singh, acceded to power in 1903. The present view of his procession was presumably executed to commemorate the festivities.
According to a note on the reverse of the frame a treaty of alliance with the British was signed in November 1803 and as a result the Maharaja was entitled to a 15 gun salute on official occasions.
