A magnificent pair of futuristic images of the Observatory at Delhi visited on 24 February 1789: The Jantar-Mantar was one of the series of observatories erected in 1724 by Maharajah Jai Singh II of Jaipur in compliance with the instructions of the Mughal Emperor, Muhammad Shah, to reform the Hindu calendar. Thomas Daniell declared himself impressed by the "singularity, as well the magnitude of such astronomical instruments". (2)
