The jardineres display Chinese garden vignettes with bird-inhabited bamboo and shrubs executed in cameo-blue against a rosy pink ground; and correspond to wall-paper introduced for the exotic Chinese corridor or promenade gallery, created around 1830 at King George IV's Marine Pavilion, Brighton. Their trompe l'oeil bamboo frames, likewise correspond to the Great Corridor's beech-wood bamboo and oak furnishings (The Royal Brighton Pavilion, Guidebook, p. 8.) Much of this furniture was returned, when the corridor was splendidly reconstructed by Roy Bradley in 1957 (J. Dinkel, The Royal Pavilion at Brighton, 1989).
