Patterns for related Grecian-scrolled stools featured in The London Chairmaker's and Carvers Book of Prices, 1823, while the lyre-scrolled form of its arms relates to those of a 'settee' pattern illustrated in Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1807 (pl. XIX, fig. 2). Its reeded rails correspond to those of a set of rosewood grained chairs, with Grecian-scrolled feet and Elizabethan 'bobbin' enrichments, sold anonymously, Bonhams, 26 November 1992, lot 107. Like this stool, the chairs also bore the Journeyman's brand 'HH' as found on the following lot.
