AN ORMOLU-MOUNTED KINGWOOD, TULIPWOOD, AMARANTH AND EBONISED PARQUETRY CARTONNIER
The rectangular top above a shaped cartonnier with ten drawers with ebonised bands, the splayed waist enclosing a further drawer and ebonised red leather-lined writing-slide, the lower section with two quarter-veneered doors, enclosing a further fitted interior with ten drawers, simulated as fourteen, flanked by canted angles and above a shaped apron with C-scroll and acanthus spray, on cabriole legs with C-scroll and acanthus sabots, basically 18th Century and adapted, the drawers possibly later, inscribed in chalk 'CH' PRINCE' to the reverse

The lower section of this cartonnier and in particular the apron are closely related to a secretaire à abattant by Franois Mondon, whilst the overall shape, with the waisted top, relates to a secretaire à doucine by Pierre Migeon (P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 585, fig. F, and p. 571, fig. E, respectively).
