The moulded and canted rectangular grey-veined white marble top above a Vitruvian-scroll frieze and two tambour shutters enclosing a mirror-backed interior with one shelf, above two panelled doors enclosing a divided interior with one shelf, the canted fluted angles headed by a laurel-leaf mount and on foliate scrolling sabots, with two fragmenary transport labels, stamped to the top of the carcase 'F. SCHEY' and 'JME'

Fidelys Schey, maître in February 1777.

Schey had a prolific, if short-lived career. Established in the Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, adjacent to the atelier run by his wife, he was patronised by the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne at the château de Fontainebleau in 1786. Identical angle-mounts appear on a Louis XVI parquetry commode stamped by Schey, which is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Franais du XVIII Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 785.
