Montpellier, first half of the 14th century
Shaped oval, the tapering stem with lion's mask at the join and baluster finial, marked on reverse of the bowl

The Montpellier town mark on this spoon was used until about 1355 and all extent pieces dating from the 2nd half of the 14th century are struck with the town mark alone. In 1349 Montpellier passed under the control of the Kings of France, (see L. Deguara, Orfèvrerie Civile de Montpellier et du Languedoc, 1996)
