A BROWN AND YELLOW JADE HEN

The hen crisply carved in the round with its head and neck arched over its left shoulder, its neck, wing and tail feathers lightly incised, the body gently rounded and the tail slightly arched, the underside carved with its legs tucked under the body, the stone predominantly of russet and darker brown tone with yellow areas

This hen is naturalistically carved and can be compared to a group of two pale coloured jade chickens illustrated by McElney, Jades from China, no 282, dated early Ming dynasty.
