A North German Black And White Armour
Third quarter of the 16th Century
Comprising burgonet with two-piece skull with high roped comb, prominent pointed fall, deep hinged cheek-pieces and two-plate neck-defence, almain-collar comprising a main plate and two neck-plates at front and rear, pivoted on the left and with elbow-length spaudlers of seven plates each, cuirass comprising back-plate with culet of one plate and breast-plate with prominent central point, moveable gussets and prominent roped turn at neck and arms, fauld of two plates, knee-length laminated tassets of seven plates each, the lowest bluntly pointed, and fingered gauntlets with flaring pointed cuffs, the main edges turned and roped, the lining-rivets with rosette-shaped washers throughout, the surfaces throughout embossed in very low relief with sprays of oak foliage bearing acorns, and plain bands and borders, all bright against a black ground (some leathers broken)
