拍品专文

The design of this print is somewhat similar to that of the previous lot in the sale (lot 74), but Hiroshige adds an additional accent in the form of tentacle-like clouds, which also evoke the appearance of waves. These undulating clouds successfully enhance the composition, creating a stronger sense of dynamic movement.
The poem by Morikawa Kyoriku (1656-1716) has been read and translated by John T. Carpenter as:
Meigetsu ya
Hitokoe kumoru
Amatsukari
Across the autumn moon,
a chorus of cries forms a cloud-
geese aflight in the vast sky.
