a very fine, lively impression of this highly important large print
an early example of the eight, final state
printing very sharply and richly, with intense contrasts
with extensive burr throughout and a selectively wiped plate tone
thread margins almost all around, trimmed to or fractionally into the platemark below
some small brown stains, several old, skillful restorations, and other, minor defects
generally in good, stable condition
extensively annotated in pen and ink and red chalk verso

Unidentified, several pen and brown ink inscriptions in 18th or 19th century hands.
Johann Karl Brönner (1738-1812), Frankfurt am Main (Lugt 307); bequeathed to the Städtisches Museum, Frankfurt am Main, on 25 April 1810; then transferred to the Stadtbibliothek, Frankfurt, and to the Städel'sches Kunstinstitut, Kupferstichkabinett, Frankfurt (see Lugt 2356), with their de-accession stamp (Lugt 2396); their duplicate sale, C. G. Boerner, Leipzig, 5 October 1874, lot 837 ('sehr seltenes Capitalblatt in vorzüglichem Abdruck, leider mehrfach restaurirt') (to Wawra).
