A RARE SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD THREE-COMPARTMENT MUSICAL BOX WITH AUTOMATON AND TIMEPIECE
GENEVA, CIRCA 1800-1805; THE BOX WITH MARK OF SENÉ & DETALLA ; THE MOVEMENTS ATTRIBUTED TO PIGUET & CAPT; THE ENAMEL PAINTING ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN-LOUIS RICHTER
Rectangular with rounded corners, the sides and base enamelled with geometric panels on engine-turned ground in night blue and black, within a sky blue and gold frise of three-dimentional cubes, the sides panels framed by chased harps, the upper part formed of three hinges covers, the sides covers enamelled with river scenes, and the central one with family scene featuring parents and baby sitting on a sofa in blue room, all withing arched frames flanked by foliate bands enamelled in opaque white, the left cover opening to reveal a three colour gold automaton on enamel ground figuring two cherubs working at a forge with an automated windmill in the background, the right cover with two watch faces for hours and minutes, the central compartment for the later key and snuff, maker's mark in central compartment
