Girard-Perregaux is among Switzerland’s oldest watchmaking houses, with origins dating back to 1791. By the final quarter of the 19th century, the manufacture had established a strong reputation for producing highly complicated timepieces, particularly for the Spanish and South American markets. These watches were often distinguished by their richly decorated silver and gold dials, exemplified by the present double-dialled triple calendar watch.

The maison is perhaps best known for its iconic 'Three Gold Bridges' tourbillon, patented in 1884. This innovative and architectural movement design, showcasing the bridges as both functional and aesthetic elements, was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris, cementing Girard-Perregaux’s place in the history of fine watchmaking.
