In 1978, Audemars Piguet introduced its first automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch, at the time the thinnest example ever produced. Housed in a 35 mm octagonal case with a stepped round bezel, the model is executed in an elegant two-tone combination of 18K yellow and white gold, further enhanced by an integrated bracelet of finely woven construction, lending the watch both visual refinement and tactile sophistication.
The two-tone aesthetic is echoed on the dial, where a silvered surface is contrasted by four sunken subsidiary registers highlighted with gold accents, creating a harmonious and highly legible display.
At its heart lies the celebrated calibre 2120, derived from the legendary ultra-thin Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 920, one of the most esteemed movements of its time, also used in iconic models such as the Royal Oak, the Nautilus, and the Vacheron Constantin 222. For its perpetual calendar series, Audemars Piguet extensively reworked this base movement to incorporate the perpetual calendar complication, combining technical ingenuity with exceptional thinness.
