To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gerald Genta's renowned Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 3700⁄1, the Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 5980 was introduced at the Basel Fair in 2006. Introduced in 2013, the pink gold version of reference 5980, such as the present timepiece, is powered solely by Patek Philippe's proprietary chronograph calibre 28-520 C.
