The present reference 5088/100P-001 is a superb illustration of Patek Philippe’s mastery of both design and craftsmanship, reflecting the manufacture’s longstanding dedication to artistic excellence. Its most striking feature is the beautiful black enamel dial, which was made using the complicated champlevé technique. This difficult process involves both engraving and enameling. First, the surface of the 18K gold dial plate is carefully hollowed out to make recesses, which are then filled with enamel. The rest of the gold surfaces are finely hand-engraved with delicate floral and foliate designs, giving the piece a rich and subtly three-dimensional look.
Further enhancing the watch’s visual harmony, the sides of the case are similarly decorated, featuring hand-engraved and enameled motifs that echo the dial’s intricate design. Adorned with elegant 'volutes and arabesques', this refined platinum Calatrava represents a rare fusion of understated form and exceptional decorative artistry. The platinum buckle is likewise hand-engraved, completing the cohesive decorative theme of the timepiece.
The timepiece is powered by the ultra-thin self-winding calibre 240, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, ensuring both precision and mechanical refinement in keeping with Patek Philippe’s highest standards.
