According to the Piaget Archives, the present timepiece was manufactured in 1984.
The Piaget Polo holds a unique position in the brand's history as the first watch by the Maison to be formally given a model name. Initially, the Piaget family resisted the idea, believing the maison’s name alone sufficiently embodied excellence. But the Polo's daringly modern and athletic design, which deviated from the brand's customarily elegant aesthetic, demanded a unique identity. The name was both relevant and symbolic since Piaget was actively supporting the Palm Beach Polo World Cup at the time. Introduced in 1979, the Polo perfectly captured the glamour and playful sophistication of the era.

Piaget progressively added many variations to the collection, starting with the original reference 7661 C 701 and its 34 mm case. The present example, which has been kept in excellent overall condition, is particularly attractive due to its graceful proportions and the addition of useful complications, such as a day and date display, which improve its functionality while maintaining the model's unique sculptural appearance and smooth case and bracelet integration.
