The present timepiece is distinguished by its highly attractive black dial, enhanced by applied pink gold hour markers, confirmed by the Extract from the Archives. The model's elegant and harmonious case proportions further enhance this sophisticated combination, which produces a timeless and well-balanced aesthetic. Antoine Gerlach, one of Geneva's most renowned casemakers at the time, is identified by the key symbol number 4 on the inside of the snap-on caseback. The French import hallmark, an owl, stamped on the lower left lug and inside the caseback, indicates that the watch was meant for the French market.
Reference 96
Reference 96 was one of the first models to be given a reference number, having been introduced in 1932 as a result of the Stern family's efforts to modernize production after acquiring Patek Philippe. It created the design standards that would characterize the collection for future generations and is widely recognized as the quintessential Calatrava. Reference 96 is still one of Patek Philippe's most iconic and enduring timepieces thanks to its understated proportions and classic elegance.
