CIRCA 1745, MODELED BY J.J. KÄNDLER, POSSIBLY ASSISTED BY P. REINICKE, THE ORMOLU BASES LATE 19TH CENTURY
Each naturalistically modeled seated and wearing a collar painted with deutsche Blumen and applied with bells and a large purple bow at the back, the female dog with a feeding pup, on mound bases applied with flowers and foliage, supported on ormolu spreading plinths headed by rockwork

In June 1744, Kändler began modeling two models of pugs which he left Peter Reinicke to complete: 2 neue Mops Hunde auf einem Rasen sitzend, angefangen zu poussiren und selbigen die gehörige Action und Gestalt gegeben, welche hernach dem Bildhauer Reinicken vollends fertigen lassen, and in December 1744 he worked on: Einen Mopsshund Von feiner Grösse Neu Poussiret auf einem Rasen sietzend Welcher aufs beste nach der Natur Vorgestellet Worden [a pug dog of fine size, newly sculpted on grass, sitting, well depicted according to nature]⁽¹⁾ and the female companion is the following entry: Annoch eine Mops Hündin Von Voriger grösse Welche ein Jung Hündgen bey sich hat das sauget, sietzet Ebenfalls auf einem Rasen aufs Sauberste aus Poussret [also a female pug of the previous size, with a young puppy by her side, sculpted most neatly on grass]⁽²⁾.
