The first with panels of engine turning engraved with dots between chased bands of husks, with corded borders, the cover with a rosette, the base engraved with a coat-of-arms under marquess' coronet, the second with panels of engine turning engraved with dots and stars with borders of scrolling foliage, the cover with a rosette, the first marked on inside of cover with date letter P, maker's mark, and charge mark, inside of body with maker's mark, the flange with decharge, also with 1838 restricted warranty twice, and French import mark 1819-1838, the second marked on inside of cover with date letter P, maker's mark, and charge mark, inside of body with maker's mark, the flange with decharge, also with 1838 restricted warranty twice, and French import mark 1819-1838

The arms on the first are those of Plantin de Ville Perdrix, a noble family of Southeast France.
