Raised in Colorado as a cowboy, Charlie Dye left the West at the age of 21 to study at the Art Institute of Chicago. He later moved to New York, where he studied with Harvey Dunn while painting and illustrating for numerous major publications. Dye was one of the founding members and second president of The Cowboy Artists of America, an association of working cowboys-turned-artists committed to working in the style of Charles Russell and Frederic Remington.
