[POTTER, Beatrix] An autograph postcard and a one-page autograph letter, both signed, the former postmarked "Ambleside, 22 Dec '34", and addressed to "Mrs Benson, Troutbeck Park, Troutbeck, Nr. Windemere", stating: "Tell the little nephew I'll bring a picture book for him next time - the little chap looked so disappointed, I was sorry I had not enough with me for all the children ... from H. B. Heelis", the latter, dated "Oct. 22, '43, Castle Cottage, Sawry, Ambleside", stating: "Dear Tant, It is understood that you are leaving Troutbeck Park at Martinmas wanting a change. I hope you will all be happy in your new surroundings ... I dare say I will be up at the Park before you move; the weather has not been helpful for bronchitis ... yrs truly, H. B. Heelis". Also included in the lot is a Peter Rabbit Greetings Card (not inscribed) and a clipped newspaper article headlined "Last of Beatrix Potter's Lakeland Shepherds". (3)

Before he died in 1991 at the age of 87, Anthony "Tant" Benson was the last surviving shepherd employed by Beatrix Potter. He spent a total of 15 years working at Troutbeck Park. Like Beatrix Potter, he was a keen member of the Herdwick Sheep Society.
