The boy and bat on one side of the current plaque represent a wish for good fortune and allude to a wish for male descendants. The Chinese word for bat, fu, is a homophone for good luck and happiness. The flower-filled basket that sits besides the boy in the boat relays a wish for abundance, while on the opposite side the lotus flower, hehua, symbolizes both marriage and purity.
