This is the only known studio replica of ter Borch’s Maid Milking a Cow in a Barn (J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, inv. no. 83.PB.232). Gudlaugsson attributed only 11 of nearly 500 known copies to ter Borch’s workshop, including this one, suggesting it may be by his pupil Caspar Netscher. Netscher may have produced signed, high-quality replicas as part of his studio duties.
