MANDARIN GARNET: THE ORANGE BEAUTY OF SPESSARTITE
With its vibrant orange hue, this striking variety of garnet has been affectionately named “Mandarin” garnet by the trade. In China, it is also known as “Fanta” garnet, again in reference to its vivid orange colour.
Its correct gemmological name, however, is a spessartite garnet. First discovered in Namibia in the early 1990s, it is now also sourced from other African regions, including Nigeria and Tanzania. Inclusions are commonly found in Mandarin garnets, making this very clean specimen in lot 42 a rare found.
