SECTION OF BUZZ ALDRIN'S LUNAR DESCENT MONITORING CHART
FLOWN ON APOLLO 11, 16-24 JULY 1969
Single sheet, photolithographed lunar chart, "2nd Prototype Edition. LM Descent Monitoring Chart – Sheet 2. 16 July 1969 Launch Date – Landing Site No. 2." Inscribed by Buzz Aldrin on the chart, "— INSERTION SITE" and inscribed and signed in the top margin: "FLOWN TO THE MOON ON APOLLO XI Buzz Aldrin." Accompanied by a provenance letter signed by Buzz Aldrin and on his stationery.

The Eagle is landing: Lunar chart segment flown to the Moon on Apollo 11 by pilot, Buzz Aldrin.

This chart depicts the lunar surface around two of the three Theon Senior craters and the D'Arrest crater. It was created from a mosaic of Hasselblad photographs taken on the Apollo 10 mission. Apollo 10 helped identify three potential landing sites, of which Site 2, from which the present chart derives, was the one selected. Apollo 11 launched on schedule and the Lunar Module Eagle landed on Site 2 on 20 July 1969, in the southwestern Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquility).

This chart depicts the area under the Eagle's path as it descended to what would soon become Tranquility Base, right along the lunar equator. The insertion point is marked by the Lunar Module Pilot, Buzz Aldrin, at about the same latitude of the landing site and about 10 degrees to its east, longitude.
